| Details: Rotating Equipment Development & Design Engineer   Job # 2010-28         This engineer will be a part of an elite and relatively small team involved in the development and design of new rotating equipment products.     All the work for at least the next two years will be new product development since they will shortly be beginning another new product development project.   Their environment is exceptional in that they work very hard at having an effective true team environment whereby certain work gets lead by engineers with strengths in that area and other engineers can learn working with that person. Obviously, this type of situation also leads to having both excellent technical work and excellent products created.     Will be involved in the full lifecycle from concept (at the start of the project) through analysis, development, design, prototype, test and release into manufacturing.  This work is actual development and design of rotating machinery as product line produced in about a medium volume, not just one special piece of manufacturing capital equipment. (No interest in someone who is integrating rotating equipment into some type of system/application.)      In general, engineering activities will be include: mechanical design (have very good designers to do actual cad work); engineering analysis (computer & hand calculations such as FEA, CFD, fluid dynamics, heat transfer....); prototype & testing work (reviewing data, analyzing test results); sourcing parts/vendor interface; working with manufacturing to solve mfg issues related to new designs and miscellaneous.  The general development and design aspects deal with housings/castings to machined parts and include components such as bearings, shafts, seals, etc. I f the person enjoys actual cad work he or she can do some but the designers will do the majority (if not all) the actual design of parts but as an engineer needs to be able to look at cad cross sections and rotations.            Will provide guidance, instruction, training and motivation to supporting teams such as lab and model shop.  Perform concurrent work with manufacturing/process engineers on designs for DFM and DFA.         This is not a position for someone who has been or wants to be an analyst (specialist) only; the analysis activity maybe is 20-30% of the work.     NO interest in someone who is only an analyst, must have mechanical design exp. No interest in someone who has expertise in aerodynamics only and no interest in someone who has only expertise in FEA/finite element stress analysis.     Very good work with an opportunity for a lot of self-direction along with excellent career visibility and advancement. The engineering director is not a micromanager but someone who gives his engineers basic directions and lots of support when they need it. The engineering director has spent his 20+ years career working in development and design of rotating machinery.
